Kru Muaythai Rules and Regulations

1.    Annual Membership: All Kru must maintain active membership through the payment of annual membership fees. Failure to pay fees will result in the automatic deletion of membership records after three (3) years.

2.    Continuing Education: All Kru are required to participate in and complete refresher courses as mandated by the Kru Muaythai Association (KMA).

3.    Advancement Requirements: To be eligible for the next Khan level, Kru must successfully report and register their students' examinations on the KMA website prior to taking their own advancement examination.

4.    Authorized Use of Credentials and Logos: The use and issuance of all certificates and the KMA, World Muaythai Organization (WMO), and World Muay Boran Federation (WMBF) logos must be expressly authorized and permitted by these respective organizations.

5.    Activity Reporting: All Kru are mandated to submit reports detailing their activities to update their professional data on the KMA website.



Enforcement

Failure to adhere to any of these rules and regulations will grant the KMA the right to revoke or demote the Kru's current Khan level.

NEW DESCRIPTION RULES & REGULATIONS FOR UP GRADES

 

Khan 10 (Red Mongkhol)  Assistant- Coach-Level Examination

This is the tenth-level examination for students who have entered the world of Muaythai and Muay Boran. To be eligible, the student must have completed a minimum of 217 hours of training.

Examination Requirements:

  • Prerequisite: Candidates must possess a membership book showing they have passed the Khan 9 examination. The examination must be conducted by a Kru Khan 13 or higher, who is registered with the KMA.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional level of proficiency in all abilities required for Khan 9.
    • They must have memorized and fully understand the purpose and "heart" of every movement.
    • They must demonstrate all Muaythai and Muay Boran techniques ("weapons") on pads for three rounds of three minutes each.
    • The Wai Kru ritual must be performed with full agility, and all protection and defense techniques must be executed correctly, clearly, and powerfully.
  • Knowledge and Understanding:
    • Candidates must demonstrate a deeper understanding of Muaythai history than was required for Khan 9.
    • They must be proficient in all 15 Maemai and 15 Lukmai techniques.
  • Cultural Awareness:
    • Candidates must show a profound respect for Thai culture, history, and the rules and regulations of the art.
    • It is expected that they fully comprehend the significance of Muaythai as a Thai martial art and reflect this understanding in their performance and conduct.

This is an entry-level teaching rank, signifying a practitioner who has a strong grasp of fundamental Muaythai techniques and is ready to begin assisting in instruction. An individual at this level is recognized for their good character and commitment to the art. They must possess a solid understanding of the basic rules, history, and customs of Muaythai. While the text does not provide specific details for Khan 10, it can be inferred that this rank is the prerequisite for the Assistant Teacher rank (Khan 11), requiring a practitioner to have a proven record of training and dedication

Khan 11 (Red/White Mongkon) | Assistant Teacher/Coach

This title is awarded to individuals of good character who meet the following criteria:

·         Demonstrated ability to perform and teach Muaythai.

·         Comprehensive knowledge of Muaythai history, traditions, and customs.

·         Thorough understanding of the rules and regulations for Muaythai and Muay Boran.

·         A minimum of one year of experience as a trainer in Muaythai or Muay Boran.

·         Proven ability to teach and register at least 30 students per year.

To achieve this rank, candidates must:

·         Possess Khan 10 for a minimum of one year.

·         Pass an examination assessed by a KMA Kru Yai or an Ajarn with a Khan 14 rank or higher.

Note: An Assistant Teacher (Khan 11) is authorized to grade students up to Khan 8.

Khan 12 (Red/Yellow Mongkhol) | Kru/Teacher

This prestigious rank is awarded to individuals of exceptional character who have met the following requirements:

·         Rank and Experience: Must have held the Khan 11 rank for a minimum of one year.

·         Demonstrated Ability: Possess the ability to effectively perform, manage, and teach Muaythai and Muay Boran classes.

·         Teaching Experience: Must have at least three years of experience managing classes.

·         Portfolio Submission: A professional portfolio detailing teaching and class management experience, including relevant records and reports, must be submitted to the KMA annually for review.

 Examination Process:

·         Candidates must pass an examination assessed by a KMA Ajarn with a Khan 15 rank or higher.

·         The candidate's examination video and a copy of their most recent Khan exam must be submitted to the KMA head office.

·         Note: A Kru (Khan 12) is authorized to grade students up to Khan 9.

Khan 13 (Red/Silver Mongkhol) | Kru Yai/Senior Teacher

This distinguished title is reserved for experienced teachers who have made significant contributions to Muaythai and Muay Boran.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Possess a Khan 12 rank for a minimum of four years.
  • Be a highly skilled and experienced teacher capable of conducting classes and assisting at seminars.
  • Have extensive knowledge of Muay Boran, along with judging and refereeing skills.
  • Be able to support and conduct tournaments, as well as effectively manage a gym or club.
  • Have a roster of students who have been graded under their direct instruction.
  • Submit an annual portfolio to the KMA with proof of experience, including records and reports.

Earning the Title:

The Khan 13 rank is awarded based on merit, contribution, and worldwide support of Muaythai and Muay Boran. To officially receive this title, the applicant must pass an examination in Thailand, which is assessed by a KMA Ajarn or Pramajarn with a Khan 17 rank or higher.

Upon achieving this rank, an Assistant Master (Khan 13) is authorized to grade students up to Khan 10.

Khan 14 (Silver Mongkhol) | Ajarn/Master

The rank of Ajarn (Master) is a highly respected title awarded to a seasoned leader and educator in the world of Muaythai. This title recognizes an individual's extensive experience, mastery, and significant contributions to the martial art on a global scale.

 

Eligibility and Responsibilities:

  • Prerequisite: The applicant must have held the Khan 13 rank for a minimum of five years.
  • Instructional Mastery: The Ajarn must be an exceptionally experienced teacher with the ability to conduct and lead advanced classes, seminars, and workshops.
  • Knowledge and Leadership: They must possess a deep knowledge of judging and refereeing and be capable of managing a gym, club, and organizing tournaments.
  • Mentorship: The applicant is expected to have a significant number of students who have been graded directly under their instruction.
  • Contribution: The title is granted based on the candidate's merit, substantial contributions, and unwavering support for the worldwide development of Muaythai.
  • Annual Portfolio: An annual portfolio detailing proof of experience, records, and reports must be prepared and submitted to the KMA.

Examination and Attainment:

To achieve the prestigious rank of Khan 14, the applicant must undergo a comprehensive examination held exclusively in Thailand. This full-scale assessment is conducted by a Pramajarn (Grand Master) of Khan 18 or higher, who is registered with the KMA.

Grading Authority:

An Ajarn (Khan 14) is authorized to grade or examine students up to the Khan 12 level.

Khan 15 (Gold/Silver Mongkhol) | Puchuy Bramajarn/Assistant Grand Master

The title of Puchuy Bramajarn (Assistant Grand Master) is a highly esteemed rank, recognizing a master who has achieved an extraordinary level of expertise and influence. This rank is bestowed upon individuals who have not only demonstrated mastery in teaching but also exceptional leadership and administrative capabilities in advancing Muaythai.

Eligibility and Responsibilities:

  • Prerequisite: The applicant must have held the Khan 14 (Ajarn) rank for a minimum of seven years.
  • Leadership and Management: The Puchuy Bramajarn is an experienced leader, capable of managing all levels of promotion and activities within the Muaythai community. They must be proficient in conducting advanced classes and seminars, managing a gym or club, and organizing major tournaments.

 

  • Knowledge and Influence: This rank requires an in-depth knowledge of judging and refereeing and an established record of global contributions to the art. The title is awarded based on an individual's merit and their sustained support for Muaythai worldwide.
  • Mentorship: The candidate must have cultivated their own students who have been graded under their direct instruction.
  • Annual Portfolio: An annual portfolio, including detailed records and reports of their contributions and activities, must be prepared and submitted to the KMA.

Examination and Attainment:

To achieve the Khan 15 rank, the applicant must successfully undergo a comprehensive examination in Thailand. This assessment focuses on the candidate's ability to manage and promote the highest levels of Muaythai activities. The examination is conducted by a Pramajarn (Senior Grand Master) with a Khan 19 rank or higher, who is registered with the KMA.

Grading Authority:

A Puchuy Bramajarn (Khan 15) is authorized to grade or examine students up to the Khan 13 level.please revise and discribtion of khan 15; Khan 16 Gold Mongkol    Bramajarn / Grand Master

This title shall be awarded to person with great abilities, good character, well known, Great experience and knowledge in Muaythai, Muay Boran ,This person must be long time served and big support to KMA . Must be well known and recognized in his/her society by years of work for Muaythai. This khan grade shall be awarded by KMA Senior Grand Master committee only.

Remarks:  To achieve the khan, applicant must submit portfolio and a report of his work and activities in support of growth of Muaythai, Muayboran and support work of KMA worldwide which is assessed by KMA Exam Committee.

 Eligible applicant must possess khan 15 for more than 10 years. Applicant age cannot be less than 55 years old.  *Grand Master (khan 16) can examine and grade students up to Khan 14

Khan 16 (Gold Mongkhol) | Bramajarn/Grand Master

The title of Bramajarn (Grand Master) is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual in Muaythai. This rank is a culmination of a lifetime of dedication, leadership, and unwavering service to the martial art. It recognizes a master's profound impact on the global Muaythai community.


Eligibility and Criteria:

  • Prerequisites: The applicant must have held the Khan 15 rank for a minimum of ten years and must be at least 55 years old.
  • Character and Stature: The candidate must be a person of great ability, impeccable character, and extensive knowledge in both Muaythai and Muay Boran. They must be a well-known and highly respected figure, recognized by their community for a lifetime of work in promoting the art.
  • Service and Contribution: This rank is reserved for individuals with a long and distinguished history of service and significant support to the KMA. Their influence and contributions to the growth of Muaythai and Muay Boran worldwide must be substantial and verifiable.

Awarding Process:

The Khan 16 rank is not achieved through a traditional examination but is awarded by the KMA Senior Grand Master Committee. Applicants must submit a comprehensive portfolio and a detailed report of their work, activities, and contributions to the global Muaythai community. This submission will be thoroughly assessed by the KMA Examination Committee.

Grading Authority:

A Bramajarn (Khan 16) is authorized to grade and examine students up to the Khan 14 level.

Khan 17 (Gold Mongkhol) | Pramajarn/Senior Grand Master

This title represents a rare and revered position in the global Muaythai community. It is awarded to an individual whose dedication to the art extends far beyond teaching. A Pramajarn is a pillar of the martial art, having dedicated a lifetime to the preservation, promotion, and worldwide growth of Muaythai and Muay Boran. This rank is a recognition of profound knowledge, unparalleled experience, and the ability to guide and influence the direction of the art itself.

Awarding Criteria:

  • Prerequisites: The candidate must have held the Khan 16 (Bramajarn) rank for a minimum of ten years.
  • A Lifetime of Service: The title is bestowed upon an individual with a long and distinguished record of service, having made a significant and lasting impact on the global Muaythai community.
  • Influence and Leadership: A Pramajarn must be a well-known and highly respected figure, whose work has been instrumental in preserving Muaythai's traditions and cultural integrity.
  • Portfolio and Committee Assessment: The rank is not earned through a physical examination but is awarded by the KMA Senior Grand Master Committee following a rigorous review of the candidate's life's work, including a comprehensive portfolio and report on their contributions.
  • Age and Seniority: The applicant must be a mature elder of the Muaythai community, typically aged 65 or older, to be considered for this ultimate honor.

Grading Authority:

A Pramajarn (Khan 19) is a supreme authority and may grade and examine students up to the Khan 15 level.

Khan 18 (Special Mongkhol) | Bramajarn Yai/Grand Master Emerald

The title of Bramajarn Yai is the absolute highest and most respected rank, symbolizing the ultimate authority in the world of Muaythai. This honor is typically given to a living legend whose influence is foundational to the art's modern-day existence. The rank is so exclusive that it may only be held by a very small number of individuals at any given time, often with a unique Mongkhol signifying its unparalleled status. It represents a living legacy.

Awarding Criteria:

  • Prerequisites: The candidate must be a Pramajarn (Khan 17) with an exceptional lifetime of service and influence.
  • Ultimate Authority: The title is awarded to an individual who has not only contributed to Muaythai but has fundamentally shaped its direction, curriculum, and global recognition.
  • Unanimous Recognition: This rank is awarded by the unanimous decision of the KMA Senior Grand Master Committee and may also require the formal recognition of other leading martial arts bodies.
  • Legacy: The rank acknowledges a person whose life's work is considered a permanent part of Muaythai history, with an influence that will endure for generations to come.

Grading Authority:

A Bramajarn Yai (Khan 18) holds the highest grading authority, with the power to examine and grade students up to the Khan 16 level.revise and discribe khan 18; Khan 18 Gold Mongkon with Emerald   Associate Grand Master. This title is top of the tree awarded to assistant Grandmaster khan 17 with great abilities, good character, well known, Great experience and knowledge in Muaythai, Muay Boran ,This person must be long time served and big support to KMA . Must be well known and recognized in his/her society by years of work for Muaythai. This khan grade shall be awarded by KMA Senior Grand Master committee only. Must possess khan 17 for more than 10 years must be age not less than 65 years old

Remarks:  To achieve the khan, he/she must pass the resolution of the meeting By KMA Examination Board of Committee of at least 75% or above. And eligible applicant must possess khan 17 for more than 10 years and be aged not under 60 years old and approved by Senior Grand Master and Board of Committee.*Assistance Senior Grand Master is one of the Examination Committee.

Khan 18 (Gold Mongkhol with Emerald) | Associate Grand Master

This is the pinnacle of the Muaythai grading system, a title of supreme honor and authority. The rank of Associate Grand Master is not a rank to be achieved, but a legacy to be recognized. It is an acknowledgment of a lifelong devotion to Muaythai that has profoundly shaped the art on a global scale. This rare and prestigious title is bestowed upon a person whose expertise, character, and service are considered foundational to the art itself.

Eligibility and Awarding Process

Earning this rank is a rigorous process that goes beyond a standard examination. It requires unanimous recognition from the highest authorities of Muaythai.

  • Prerequisites: The candidate must be a Pramajarn (Khan 17) and must have held that title for a minimum of 10 years.
  • Age and Seniority: The applicant must be a minimum of 65 years old, signifying a lifetime of commitment and leadership.
  • Approval by Committee: The title is awarded only by a vote from the KMA Examination Board of Committee. A resolution for approval must pass with an overwhelming majority of at least 75%.
  • Final Endorsement: The final award is personally approved by the Senior Grand Master and the entire Board of Committee, cementing the candidate's place among the sport's highest authorities.
  • Qualities and Contribution: The recipient must be well-known and recognized for their great ability, impeccable character, and vast experience in Muaythai and Muay Boran. Their service and support for the KMA must be extensive and long-standing, with an impact that has been felt worldwide.

A Pramajarn (Khan 17) holds a key position as one of the members on this prestigious Examination Board, ensuring the highest standards are maintained for the selection of an Associate Grand Master. revise and discribe khan 19;   Highest khan 19 Gold Mongkon with Dimond, Senior  Grand Master

This title is the highest awarded to person with great abilities, good character, well known, Great experience and knowledge in Muaythai, Muay Boran ,This person must be long time served and big support to KMA . Must be well known and recognized in his/her society by years of work for Muaythai. This khan grade shall be awarded by KMA Senior Grand Master committee only.

Must possess khan 18 for more than 12 years must be age not less than 65 years old.

 

Khan 19 (Gold Mongkhol with Diamond) | Senior Grand Master

The title of Senior Grand Master is the highest possible honor in the world of Muaythai, reserved for a select few who are considered the ultimate patriarchs of the art. This rank signifies a lifetime of extraordinary contribution and an unassailable legacy that has fundamentally shaped the global identity of Muaythai and Muay Boran. This individual is not merely a teacher or a master, but a living foundation of the martial art.

Eligibility and Awarding Process

The awarding of this rank is a solemn and profound event, requiring the unanimous recognition from the most senior figures in Muaythai.

  • Prerequisites: The candidate must have held the Khan 18 (Associate Grand Master) rank for a minimum of 12 years.
  • Age and Seniority: The applicant must be at least 65 years old, representing a lifetime of dedication and unparalleled experience.
  • Legacy of Contribution: The Senior Grand Master must be a person of impeccable character, widely recognized for their vast knowledge, great abilities, and unwavering support of the KMA. Their decades of service must have left an indelible mark on the global growth and preservation of Muaythai.
  • Awarding Authority: This rank is not earned through any form of examination. It is awarded solely by the KMA Senior Grand Master Committee through unanimous consensus, signifying the ultimate respect and authority within the martial arts community.

The Gold Mongkhol with a Diamond is a unique and singular symbol of this rank, representing the pinnacle of achievement and the ultimate honor that can be bestowed upon an individual in Muaythai.
